March TBR

Evening Bookworms,

Today I’m going to be talking about the books that are on my March TBR list. I’m setting a mini list this month as currently I’m not getting through books as quickly as I would like to. Juggling an 18 month old, running a home and heading out to the day job is pretty full on atm. Reading is a great passion of mine though and it is something I love to do whenever I get a free half hour to myself.

If any of you have read the books that I’ve listed down below then please do leave a comment letting me know what you thought of it.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or a performance. It’s the closest you’ll ever find to magic in this world.

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over. caraval
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend.

This is a new debut novel from Stephanie Garber. Its been a book that has been on my must buy list long before it was published. The book itself is stunning. In the UK the hard cover has four different designs. My copy had the dress on it. Simply beautiful.

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has travelled not just miles but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from passenger a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now.

I’ve always been a fan of time travel and have recently come across this book from other bloggers talking about the second book in the series.

Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.
The saga that began with Illuminae continues on board the space station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of BeiTech’s assault. Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter, Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while they are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.gemina

I really enjoyed the first book in the trilogy and am hoping that this one is going to be even better. I’ve heard good things about Gemina.

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

Everyday the same.
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cosy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
Until today! gott

I know that this book has been out for a while now but it is one I have never got round to reading. I still need to see the film but want to make sure I’ve read the novel first.

I’m over half way through Caraval now and can say that I’m thoroughly enjoying this debut novel. Keep checking back for a review on this book in the coming weeks.

The Fictional Boyfriend Book Tag

Hello Bookworms! Today I thought I would try something different to my usual review posts. All across YouTube I have been seeing the Boyfriend Book tag popping up so I thought I’d give it ago. I’m hoping that as The Bookish Bookworm progresses I can add other articles and topics into the blog as well as my main reviews. Please let me know if this is something you would like to see on here and what topics you might be interested in. Leave a comment down below.

  1. Most romantic boyfriend

Without a doubt, this for me has to be Noah Calhoun from The Notebook. He is such a romantic. He sits everyday with Ally in their older years telling her about their life together in the hope that she can remember it all. He writes to her everyday when she goes away. He even builds the dream house she longs for. He’s a guy that is infatuated. If this isn’t romance, then what is.

  1. Dark and moody bad boy with a good side.

This one took a while for me to think of someone but eventually I chose Damon Salvatore from the Vampire Diaries series. Early on he is portrayed as a self centred, selfish vampire but as the series moves on he begins to display a more caring personality.

  1. Paranormal boyfriend.

This one would have to go to Edward Cullen from the Twilight Saga. He is of course a vampire, but a vampire that is a big romantic. He protects Bella throughout the novels, he even takes her to her own personal island on their honeymoon. What more could you want from a boyfriend. He has that old school charm of helping a damsel in distress.

  1. Boyfriend you want to tame.

I’m going to chose Baz from Carry On. He one of those characters that acts all tough and as though nothing fazes him so I think it would be interesting to see if you could tame is bad boy ways.

  1. Boy you friend zoned.

Prince Kai from Cinder the Lunar Chronicles is the guy I’m friend zoning. Even though he’s perfect in pretty much every way, I couldn’t feel any desire to have him as a boyfriend. I will say though that he would make a perfect friend. He’s kind, caring and would always look out for your welfare. Sorry Kai.

  1. Your soul mate.

This spot is reserved for Mr Darcy from the classic Pride and Prejudice. Even though he is initially portrayed as a bit of a moody and arrogant man, we soon see that he really cares for Elizabeth and would do anything for her. Mr Darcy is a true gentlemen from a time where guys knew how to treat a lady with respect and dignity.

  1. Boyfriend you want to elope with.

The boyfriend I would want to elope with is Ross Poldark from the Poldark series. He’s a strong character who has been through a lot. I think if you were to elope with him, you would go on a big adventure with him. Just imagine it, riding along side by side with the sea air blowing through your hair…….I’m such a dreamer.

  1. Boyfriend you would venture anywhere with.

Jamie Fraser from Outlander. He’s a guy that’s been through thick and thin, he’s had his fair share of troubles. I think he would be the ideal guy to go on an adventure with. He would be able to look after and defend you if you came across any rough bandits on the open road. And of course he would be able to keep you warm and safe at night!

  1. Boyfriend you’d want to be stranded on a desert island with.

I’m going to say Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games Trilogy. I think it would be very easy to get on well with him and have plenty to talk to so you would never be bored. He seems a very caring sort of person that would put you first and make sure you were looked after.

  2. Most bad ass boyfriend.

This one was perhaps the hardest question. After much thinking, I am going to have to say Jamie Fraser once again from Outlander. To me having been through as much as he has and survived means he is one bad ass guy. With all he has gone though, he is still a good and kind hearted person.
